Grupo México improves its performance in global ESG assessments

  • The greatest advances focused on water management, business ethics, labor practices, human rights, environmental and social management, and climate change strategy, among others.

Grupo México continues to show sustained progress in consolidating its performance in global assessments related to transparency and the implementation of best environmental, social, and governance practices.

In 2021, for the fifth consecutive year, the company is part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the most robust sustainability index worldwide, encompassing companies with outstanding environmental, social, economic, and corporate governance standards.

To be part of this index, the company has shown a 24% improvement in its rating in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment since 2018, and it ranks 79% above the average performance of companies in the Mining and Metals sector.

“In recognition of these advancements, Grupo México has been included in the 2022 Sustainability Yearbook by the credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s in the metals and mining category, making it one of the ten Mexican companies recognized in this publication.

Furthermore, Grupo México has demonstrated well-organized management of climate change-related risks, achieving a ‘B’ rating in the CDP Climate disclosure system in 2021, marking a two-level improvement compared to the previous assessment.

Additionally, the company has initiated its adherence process to The Copper Mark, a scheme that promotes and certifies responsible copper production based on 32 criteria, including business ethics, human rights, community relations, labor conditions, environment, and governance, with independent third-party verification. La Caridad mine and Grupo México’s Metallurgical Complex, both located in Sonora, have already formalized this commitment.
